Medomak Valley is a comprehensive high school that serves the academic needs of students from the five communities comprising MSAD #40. Our 680 students are provided the opportunity to follow several pathways which encompass a wide variety of course offerings. Medomak Valley has been working with the Great Maine Schools Project to review curriculum, instruction, and programming to insure that all students have the opportunity to learn.

Our goal and focus is to improve equity, academic rigor, and personalization for all students. With this in mind, several changes have been implemented, including the creation of freshman teams. These teams of teachers provide instruction and support in the core curricular disciplines. In addition, they lend assistance through directed study. Literacy classes have been created to allow additional support across all curricular areas. We still maintain a wide variety of elective courses, including drama, photography, horticulture, and industrial technology, to name a few.

We are very excited about the opportunity to work with Great Maine Schools and the resulting reorganization taking place at Medomak Valley. We welcome the chance to share these changes and the opportunities afforded all our students.

Currently an accredited member of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Medomak Valley will be visited by a team of fifteen professional educators next September, for our ten-year evaluation. This team will meet with the faculty, administration, superintendent, school board, parents, students, and community members to review the high school self-study that was completed in the spring of 2006, after eighteen months of preparation by the faculty. We are eager for their visit and review of our curriculum, instruction, and assessment system. Their report will be a public document to be shared with the community later in the fall of 2006.
