The six towns that comprise SAD #37 (Addison, Cherryfield, Columbia, Columbia Falls, Harrington, and Milbridge) have worked together for more than three decades to accomplish a great many achievements for students in our area. Recent accomplishments include building an addition to Narraguagus High School and being among the top ranking schools in the state for our elementary Maine Educational Assessment (MEA) test scores.

As many are aware, SAD #37 has undergone a lot of turmoil over the past year and the newly formed dissolution committee began its work on October 19th. In an effort to seek out a long-term solution that will work educationally, fiscally, and in a fair manner for our communities, the SAD #37 board voted to form a broad-based committee to seek out some long-term options for the future of education in the district, particularly in reference to buildings, including possible new construction and/or renovation of existing schools and the configuration of our schools.

The committee is comprised of an SAD #37 board member from each town, a staff member from each of our schools, and a community representative from each town appointed by the selectmen. Steve Pagels, School Board Chair, and Deb Stewart, Superintendent are the facilitators.

The committee has held two meetings already and plans to hold two meetings a month with a final report to the Board of Directors and the member communities within six months. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 8th, at Narraguagus High School at 6:30 p.m. These meetings are open to the public. Narraguagas High School is a small school in Harrington, Maine, United States. It has 280 students in grades 9-12. The school is named for the Narraguagus River, which runs through the town.

The school supports boys' and girls' soccer, cross country, basketball, golf and volleyball teams. There are six special education teachers, and 24 other teachers. This creates an average of 12 students per teacher. It is 96.4% white, and 3.6% other ethnicities, as of the 2005 census.
