Westbrook High School
is a
U.S.
public
high
school located in
Westbrook, Maine. The school serves grades 9 through 12, and usually enrolls
between 800 and 900 students each year. Westbrook High School is a part of the
Westbrook School Department. The school competes in the Southern Maine
Athletics Association (SMAA) and Maine Class A athletics. The school
mascot is the
"blue blaze".
Westbrook High students are known for their
dedication to sporting events. "Zoo
Crews" and "superfans"
are common at most WHS sporting events, especially
soccer,
basketball,
and ice
hockey. WHS Ice Hockey has "The Militia" while most other events have "Superfans".
WHS is not particularly known for sports talent.
Other than Field Hockey, Boys Soccer and Boys Swimming, the 06-07 season is
looking like it always is - bottom of the standings; although Hockey and both
Basketball teams have improved greatlysince last season.
Students from Westbrook High School's music
programs have participated in national competitions. In 1993, the marching band
competed in the
Tournament of Roses Parade in
Pasadena, California. In 1995, the marching band competed in the
Citrus
Bowl in
Orlando, Florida.
The Westbrook High School Bell Ringers are a
group of ten student-athletes that perform throughout southern Maine with a set
of 44 Dutch hand bells. The group has been a staple of the school community
since the early 1960's.
Westbrook High School was previously located on Main Street in
downtown Westbrook. The school moved to its current location in the 1950's. The
school underwent an extensive renovation in 1992.
